Project Highlight: Paint It Forward 2025

November 10th, 2025

Every year, PMV Painting chooses a way to give back to the community through our expertise and skills. Last year, we supported a local nonprofit (Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners), and this year we opted to help out a local family as they are facing a difficult medical diagnosis.

A Rare Condition That Requires Extra Care

One of the families right here in our community has been facing an incredibly tough challenge. The father of the family is living with a rare condition called progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) – a neurodegenerative disease that affects movement, speech, and even vision. Over time, it makes daily life more and more difficult and requires a great deal of daily care and support.

For this family, caring for their husband and father comes first, as it should. Between appointments for therapies, and day-to-day care, there isn’t much time left for home projects or maintenance. That’s where we wanted to step in. By doing what we do best, we could help lighten their load just a little. Through our Paint it Forward project, our team was honored to give back and help make their home a little brighter and easier to enjoy.

Giving Fresh Life to Wood Siding

Wood siding is great for its sustainability, aesthetic, and versatility. However, it does require regular maintenance in order to prevent problems like water intrusion or mold. Wood cladding needs to be cleaned and checked for missing or damaged caulk on an annual basis, and should be repainted or resealed every 7 – 9 years.

Over time the existing paint can chip, wear away, and get damaged by the sun. When this happens, the wood is vulnerable to water damage. This local family did not have time to worry about a whole-house paint job, but PMV stepped up to take care of it for them.

First, the entire exterior needed to be inspected for rotted siding and trim. These areas were repaired and all the siding and trim was properly caulked to ensure a weather tight seal. Prior to painting, one last and important step was to thoroughly clean the siding and trim to remove any dirt, debris, and mildew from the surface. After that, the team could get to work. We opted for two coats of Benjamin Moore’s WoodLuxe Solid Acrylic Stain, a very durable exterior coating, to ease the family’s maintenance concerns.

One of the challenges of wood siding like this is that it requires significant brushwork, and only small rollers can be used. When health and caregiving concerns are so pressing, it’s not easy to find the time to dedicate to such a large project. At PMV Painting, we’re glad that we could make an impact for this family.

The result is a modern and low-maintenance exterior for this beautiful home. We love the finishing touches, like the gorgeous contrast of the Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue paint on the front door.
